Austin, Texas is a lively place to visit because there are so many options for things to do. Austin is known for awesome bars and restaurants, parks with swimming holes, unique food trucks, and tons of outdoor activities. Austin has seemingly limitless things to do, popular streets to explore, and tons of cool tours that offer a chance to learn about the city and its attractions.
Here are five activities to consider when exploring Austin.
1. Austin Duck Adventures
Austin Duck Adventures is a unique way to tour Austin through land and water sightseeing. This kid-friendly, 75-minute tour is one of Austin’s most popular. The special hybrid tour bus turns into a boat when entering the water, so the tour offers cool views of the city from some of Austin’s most famous streets and then offers views from Lake Austin.
The tour starts in downtown Austin along the famous 6th Street and up to Congress Avenue, offering awesome views of the Texas State Capitol, Bullock Texas State History Museum, and the Governor’s Mansion. After sightseeing Austin by land, the tour continues on to Lake Austin. The tour doesn’t stop at Lake Austin but continues by driving straight into the water for a boat tour.

2. The Escape Game
The Escape Game in downtown Austin is an immersive challenge to find clues and escape by completing a mission. The Escape Game is a 60-minute adventure game where it will take teamwork to complete a chosen mission. Escape rooms include a museum heist, finding lost gold, or a prison break. This adventure is hands-on, social, and set in an immersive environment made to feel realistic to the senses.
First, a team made up of 2–7 members will watch a video explaining how to play the game. Next, the clock starts ticking and the team must act fast to solve puzzles, find clues, and ultimately overcome the challenge. The Escape Room is mostly made for adults to enjoy due to the challenging content, but it can be family friendly for children 13 and up.

For first-timers who want to see all of the top attractions in the city, Austin Overtures is a good bet. The tours are run by knowledgeable and entertaining tour guides who know Austin well.
The 30-mile route takes travelers to Austin’s main attractions and popular hotspots like the Texas State Capitol, the downtown Austin area, the Barton Springs area, Mount Bonnell, and East Austin. Austin Overtures’ large coaches carry up to 14 passengers so if traveling with a group, it’s likely that all can be accommodated together on the tour. Austin is a generally hot city, so the comfortable air-conditioned van might be a better choice than a walking or biking tour during the hottest months.

Watercraft enthusiasts can explore Austin from Lady Bird Lake, an urban adventure that offers views of the Austin skyline from the lake. Live Love Paddle offers three kinds of tours: the Congress Bridge bat watching tour, the urban kayak tour of downtown Austin, and the full moon kayak and live music tour.
The Congress Avenue Bridge bat watching kayak tour is 2–2.5 hours long and runs from March to November. Every night at dusk, millions of bats fly from under the bridge in search of food. The bat colony is one of Austin’s coolest attractions.
The urban kayak tour of downtown Austin is a daytime tour on the lake. Learn about local history and see some of the most popular sites on this 2–2.5 tour.
The full moon kayak (or paddleboard) and live music tour is 3–3.5 hours in length. On this tour, kayak to a secluded island where an acoustic band will play. Gather around a campfire, make s’mores, and watch the sunset.
